Our Tip: combine your walking or cycling tour with a cruise on a KD ship!
Castles Tour
Nowhere else can you find as many castles as on this unique stretch of the Rhine, which was declared part of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in June 2002.
Whether it be Ehrenbreitstein Fortress at the German Corner in Koblenz, Stolzenfels Palace or the uniquely well preserved Marksburg Castle in Braubach.
Take a look at the castles Katz and Maus (Cat and Mouse) before you come to the undisputed highlight of every Middle Rhine cruise - the legendary Loreley Rock! A huge cliff high above the Rhine.
But that's not all. Discover Schönburg Castle near Oberwesel, the Pfalz Castle near Kaub, and the romantic wine village of Bacharach with Stahleck Castle.
And in Rüdesheim a visit to the famous Drosselgasse is an absolute must!
Loreley Tour
If you want to explore the whole of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, it's best to start in the well-known wine town of Rüdesheim.
To all those who have less time, we recommend our particularly extensive network of cruises in the heart of the Middle Rhine between Boppard and Bacharach, ideal for shorter round trip cruises.
Many romantic castles, the Pfalz near Kaub and Schönburg Castle near Oberwesel, keep a proud watch over the Loreley Valley and bear witness to an eventful history. The banks of the river are lined with enchanting little towns and villages and idyllic medieval half-timbered houses.
In St. Goarshausen you come to the legendary Loreley Rock, which every year attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world.
Only a few kilometres downstream near Kamp-Bornhofen you meet the so-called "Hostile Brothers", two castles surrounded by myth. Relax on the KD ship while you enjoy the unique view and soak in some of the medieval feeling.
KD Nostalgia Route
This is our highlight on the romantic Middle Rhine – in search of the UNESCO World Heritage. Enjoy the pure nostalgia between Koblenz and Rüdesheim when you discover the most famous sights on the river of German romanticism in authentic style on board our paddle steamer GOETHE. During the cruise we shall be delighted to offer you something tasty from our ship’s menu.
Seven Mountains Tour
Take a cruise with KD past Bonn to the legendary Drachenfels (Dragon’s Cliff) in Königswinter.
Take advantage of our low priced two-in-one ticket and ride on the cog railway up to the spot where according to legend Siegfried slew the dragon. Enjoy the unique view over the Rhine Valley.
Those wishing to stay at water level will find a beautiful promenade which just invites you to take a stroll.
A popular attraction is the SEA LIFE Königswinter – we can offer you a sensationally priced two-in-one ticket.
Of course it’s also worthwhile to stay on the ship and explore the Siebengebirge Mountains beyond Königswinter. For instance the picturesque spa town of Bad Honnef is rightly known as “Nizza of the Rhine”.
Charming little Rhine valley towns such as Unkel or Linz invite you to visit them, and we should not forget the two spa towns Bad Breisig and Bad Hönningen.
